Ecumenical & Interfaith Partners

Locally, our church is involved with other faith communities in the Palo Alto, Peninsula, and greater San Francisco Bay Area in matters of justice, witness, and ministry support. Associate Minister the Rev. Dr. Eileen Altman serves as convener of the Palo Alto Faith Community Leaders Network, which includes faith leaders from all religious traditions in the immediate Palo Alto vicinity to connect for mutual support and conversation. Additionally, the Peninsula Clergy Network brings together Christian clergy-people along the San Francisco Peninsula, and has taken a particular emphasis on combating issues related to the development of affordable housing in our region.

Through the United Church of Christ, we are in Full Communion -- fully recognizing the traditions, sacraments, ministries, and leadership of other Protestant Christian denominations. This is just one way that we live out our denominational motto, That They May All Be One, inspired by Jesus’ prayer for the unity of his followers.

Our Full Communion agreements locally have meant joint programs, particularly in outreach and youth ministries, as well as active connections among the leadership of our respective denominations within Palo Alto. These Full Communion partners include:
  • Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
  • Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
  • Presbyterian Church (USA)
  • Reformed Church in America
  • United Church of Canada
  • Evangelical Church of Germany (EKD)

We gather as a church, welcoming people of all abilities, backgrounds, ethnicities, and those who are LGBTQ+, to become more aware of the love of God in our lives and to make real that love in the world through worshiping, serving humanity, and seeking to follow in the ways of Jesus.
